EBONYI- Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State, yesterday, pleaded with members and leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to obey the Court verdict, postponing the forthcoming Local Government Election in the State.
The appeal became necessary, following the insinuation in some quarters that some aggrieved members of the Party must have engineered the postponement of the LG polls, since their interest were not protected within the Party.
Governor made the appeal while communicating to the members of PDP through zoom at the Secretariat of the Party in Abakaliki during the Party’s State Executive Committee, SEC, meeting.
“We can not disobey Federal Court not to talk of our own Court. I believe strongly that everything works together for good for those that love Jesus. So, every disappointment shall be our own stepping stone. I advise that we obey the rule of law and adjust our own time tables to be in conformity with the time table of the EBSIEC.
“I’m very sure that those that won the Party’s ticket can still repeat the same feats. They should not be afraid. I will suggest that the Party Chairman should give discounts to those who bought forms before, those that still want to participate and that they must be fresh three man delegates to the election.”
Addressing Journalists immediately after the meeting, the State Chairman of PDP, Barr. Onyekachi Nwebonyi stated that the Party would obey the Court verdict and prepare for fresh primaries in line with EBSEIC time table.
“Just yesterday a Political Party rumored that the elections would not hold as scheduled and today (yesterday), EBSIEC brought a letter to us confirming the rumors. The Party is not happy with what we are seeing, and we believe strongly that some of our Party men and women are behind it.
“It is worrisome that after having done primaries, we are asked to redo it. How are we going to start after doing our primaries, do we go back to the drawing board? We are not happy with development, but being a law abiding Party, we have no option than to abide by the decision of the Court as directed to us by EBSIEC.
“We shall revisit our primaries and we shall put our house in order to ensure we participate validly in the fourth coming Local Government elections. We will advertise for sale of forms,. Anybody who could not participate in the previous primaries is at liberty to participate now.
“We can not wave the cost of purchasing forms because we have a lot of expenses to make. Believe you me that the Party does not get fund from Government, not even a grant. So, it is from what we have that we use to sponsor the Party. And we can not go into Ccongresses devoid of financial involvement. We need money to finance the activities of the Party.”
