Abakaliki-THE Chairman of Ebonyi State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Chief Hyacinth Ikpor yesterday explained that his absence when the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts visited his office was not an act of absconment.
The Committee was in the State yesterday on an oversight function to some key establishments.
In a chat with newsmen in Abakaliki, the SUBEB boss who noted that no official document backing their visit was sent to the Board stressed that he was out on an official assignment at Uburu, the hometown of the Governor when the Committee visited.
According to him, the board has been receiving visitors from the federal government as all financial dealings of the Board is readily available for any agency of government to go through.
“I am shocked at this development. There is no official document from the House Committee that they were coming to pay us a visit.
“As a matter of fact, the issue of absconment does not arise. I went to Uburu for an official assignment. By the time I came, I called on them by 3pm to come back that I was in the office to receive them.”
On whether he will appear before the House Committee on Public Accounts in Abuja, the SUBEB boss added: “I am ready to appear before any Committee today. If I am summoned and there is an official document to that effect I will appear without delay.’
Ikpor further stated that the Governor through the activities of SUBEB has been able to advance the cause of education in the State. Ends
