Ebonyi-The leadership of the apex socio-cultural Youth Organisation, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, yesterday disassociated itself, Igbo Governors among others from the N50bn lawsuit filed by some eminent Southern and Middle-belt leaders against the President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Igbo youths insisted that critical leaders of thought in the South-East geo-political zone were not consulted before the suit was filed.
President-General of the group, Okechukwu Isigusoro and Secretary General, Okwu Nnabuike, stated this in a statement signed in Abakaliki.
Eminent socio-cultural leaders from Southern and middle-belt Nigeria had, on Monday, sued the President, Maj-Gen Buhari (retd.), for N50bn over marginalisation of the people of the region in the appointments in security, para-security agencies and “strategic agencies” of government.
The statement read in part, “Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide on the directives of Igbo Elders, traditional and religious leaders, critical stakeholders that made up the General Assembly of Ohanaeze Ndigbo ( which is registered in CAC), have disowned the lawsuit against President Muhammadu Buhari, who’s believed to be dragged before Abuja High Court over alleged wrongdoings and marginalisation in appointments made by his administration since 2015.
“We commend the Southern leaders efforts to ensure that justice is done, especially in respecting the principles of Federal Character, but Igbo youths wish to state categorically that various stakeholders were not consulted and one of the signatories (Nwodo) is no longer in-charge of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo youth will never join in such weighty allegations against President Muhammadu Buhari without proper evidence of support from the Igbo Governors, Igbo traditional rulers, religious leaders, stakeholders and based on the constitution of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
“ONYC is privy to the ongoing consultative meetings being held by the newly formed national leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, which is registered in CAC. With all the stakeholders, especially with Igbo traditional rulers, religious groups, resolutions will be communicated to the Igbo Governors as the political leaders of Igboland for ratification and endorsement.
‘With this development, Igbo youths wish to dissociate themselves, Igbo Governors, Igbo ministers, Igbo ambassadors, traditional rulers, religious leaders, stakeholders from the N50 billion lawsuit against President Muhammadu Buhari on the basis of nonconsultations and may take appropriate measures to prevent future occurrences through legal action against mischief makers and impostors.”
