Ebonyi-The Governorship candidate of the Independent Democrats, ID, in the 2019 general election, Cyprain Obasi, Friday, decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the State.
The Independent Democrats, ID, was among the Political Parties deregistered by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Obasi, who was once a member of the PDP, described his return to the Party as a journey back to his original home.
In a statement issued in Abakaliki, Obasi stated that: “I started my political journey with PDP and I aspired for Ohaozara west Constituency, Ebonyi State House of Assembly under PDP.
“Later, I moved to the Independent Democrats, ID and I was an aspirant for Ohaozara west constituency, Ebonyi State House of Assembly and later became the Deputy Governorship candidate of Independent Democrats (ID) in the 2019 general elections.
“That I am formerly returning to where it all began, the PDP, to join forces with his Excellency Governor David Nweze Umahi and other party stakeholders to deliver good governance to Ebonyians; as well as play vital role to helping the PDP clinch power at the center come 2023.
“That Independent Democrats being deregistered and National Chairman and Presidential candidate having defected to APC, meaning the center can no longer hold, it is incumbent that I return to my home, the PDP.
“To this end, I am urging all my followers, admirers and loyalists to join forces with me as we make this historical move. I am not alone. Thanks.”
