With my more than a decade of experience in business development and strategy response working for multinationals, I have come to realize how education can make a lasting difference in our lives and the lives of our children. The corporate social responsibility platform presented by these organizations as springboards for giving back to the communities where they operate, believes that education is not just good for children particularly, it’s also good for their communities in general.
Therefore, Okpudo’s investment in education isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s also smart economics.
Education puts a people on a path towards good health, empowerment and employment. It also helps to build more peaceful communities. Simply put, all round prosperity!
Evidence shows that, on average, each additional year of education boosts a person’s income by 10 per cent and increases a country’s GDP by 18 per cent. Some researchers estimate that if every child learned to read, around 170 million fewer people would live in poverty.
Education can change your entire life. I consider education to be the most powerful asset to have. Of course, it is the most powerful investment in our future (our children). We should invest in it very wisely and carefully to make use of it perfectly in the future. The future of our generation can be positively improved and impacted through investment in this great tool, Education.
From experience, the children who would most benefit from these kinds of educational interventions as embarked upon by Okpudo, are those most denied it through no fault of their own. Perhaps their families are poor. Perhaps they live with disabilities and cannot access school. Perhaps they live in remote areas to mention a few.
Education is the base for anything and everything, it needs to reach every nook and cranny, unbiased, irrespective of gender, family status, area.
Education can therefore offer them safety and the opportunity to learn skills that will help them to heal wounds and rebuild their communities where need be.
To understand why Okpudo is on the right track, it is instructive to note that the challenge is growing right before our very eyes. Believe it or not, it is projected that by 2030, over 600 million more children will need to be enrolled in school to achieve basic education for all.
This massive movement by Okpudo must be an impetus for changing the way we view education.
The Investment Case for Education and Equity calls for strategies like:
- allocating more resources to education in the early grades
- targeting resources to the poorest areas and most marginalized children
- establishing policies and methods that improve spending efficiency.
- strengthening learning assessment systems and implementing accountability measures that involve parents and beneficiary communities
All over his constituency, east, west, north, and south, the news hounds have gone berserk with news about the giant and indelible strides Okpudo is taking towards injecting live into the educational system. Several schools – primary, secondary, technical, vocational, and tertiary – have benefited, are benefiting, and will benefit from these laudable and invaluable interventions.
Recently on Friday 12th March 2021, in continuation of the distribution of materials and equipment to schools as part of his (Okpudo’s) educational intervention programs, Itim Ukwu primary school got additional 140 global standard learning plastic chairs, 140 global standard learning plastic tables, 2 global standard Head Master tables and 5 global standard Class teachers tables.
People like Okpudo are rare in the human ecosystem. One who finds purpose and maintains goals in every part of his life. Taking charge of his positive self and putting himself and his people on the success beam of high achievements as desired. The life force that surges in him is his driving focus with a spark of greatness within. Eminence begins when you start to enjoy what you do and that is where Okpudo is headed – path of Eminence. He has learnt to forbear circumstances and has regarded them as stepping stones to eminence.
As a people and beneficiaries from Okpudo’s constituency, we must remain humble, examine the criticisms (as they will surely come), pay attention to the signals coming from our environment and take corrections. Everyone must find something positive you like to do in support and make it pay. Give it your very best as a show of appreciation to a man who has gone the extra mile to add everlasting healing smile on the faces of his people. The pupils of Itim Ukwu primary school and their teaching team now have a veritable reason to enjoy going to school as they look forward to a conducive learning environment with huge smile on their faces.
Before embarking on a course of action, test your capabilities yourself. Acquire whatever else you need and make the best of whatever tools you have. Do not disregard the value of your time, as Okpudo has shown and continues to show the right way. There is an undisputable correlation between environment and learning. A conducive learning environment will most definitely lead to proper psychological development. The Okpudo intervention programs in education come with multifaceted advantages.
The obvious excitement on the faces of these pupils speaks volumes. Their expressions and body languages are pointers to the mien of one whose burden has been taken off his or her shoulders. The freedom to learn and excel therefore has become reachable and handy. The people will never forget as it takes a person with a heart of gold and genuine concern for the human capital development of his people to walk his talk. We are all living witnesses of people who have made humongous promises that never get fulfilled. This man (Okpudo) promises less but ends up delivering more. To put it on a better scale, it does look like he has not started yet. Judging by what we hear, this appears to be just the beginning and a tip of the iceberg. As far as educational intervention is concerned, the people need to gird their loins and look forward with bated breath.
In conclusion, we must note that there is no time to lose. Educated children are at the heart of healthy, productive and prosperous societies. If that is the future we want tomorrow, we must invest today, taking into cognizance, the Okpudo example.
