The Deputy National Secretary of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Chief Jerry Obasi, Tuesday, declared that the 2023 Presidential Election would give Nigerians the opportunity to support candidates of Igbo extraction.
Obasi who was the Deputy Governonorship Candidate of APGA in the 2015 General election, Ebonyi State and the National Leader of a splinter group known as Authentic APGA explained that candidates of Igbo extraction parade unequalled and distinctive qualifications required to salvage the country from economic recession.
According to him, the current witch-hunt of Igbo Politicians by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, under the disguise of fighting corruption, remains a calculated attempt to intimidated Ndigbo ahead of the 2023 Presidential Election.
In a chat with Punchynews, Obasi said: “The Igbo race in Nigeria have suffered series of mistreatment socially, politically and economically. These forms of politically motivated mistreatments are compounded by a conspicuous and consumated conspiracy to deny the Igbo extraction, the PRESIDENCY.
“Ndigbo should continuously take obvious steps towards the realisation of this much taunted Igbo dream of Igbo presidency. It has always been deliberately truncated by haters of Ndigbo who perceived they have an axe to grind with Ndigbo.
“Since 1999 to date, Ndigbo have participated in all of the Presidential elections, including the 2015 and 2019 Presidential elections, which gave birth to General Mohammadu Buhari. Candidates such as Oby Ezekwesili, Moghalu, among others are consumate international personalities with very robust verifiable credentials running against General Mohammadu Buhari whose WASC results, hitherto, has controversially remained with the Nigerian Army. Most stakeholders including the Courts, did what they could do, because an Igbo must not smell or taste the Presidency.
“Igbo have presented the best candidates with best manifestos but treated like a sheet of toilet paper, simply because they are IGBO. Whenever Igbo are perceived to have done wrong, other geopolitical environment have done the worst. Let us look at it from every indices viz Educational background, Economic development and Management, impeccable persona, productivity, international synchrozia and autarky, to mention a few, Igbo are as spotless as Ceasar’s wife.
“Presently, the Buhari’s Presidency is persistently in and out of recession because of the apparent lack of Igbo hands around. Ndigbo without mincing words have the magic wand.
“The best way to pursue the Igbo political vision with regards to the PRESIDENCY is to first and foremost come together as a people under a united Nigeria, engage other areas of the Country with a calculated objective to purge their minds of hate and phobia against Ndigbo, convocating of colloquiums and enlightenment campaigns in campuses, markets and public places are also key in this very important pursuit.
“Let it also be reminded of us, that no part of Nigeria must be extinguished in the Nigerian project. Suffice to say the obvious, Ndigbo as a people have suffered series of reprimands, cajoles, Annihilations, all in a desperate bid to frustrate any efforts or attempts at reaching her most deprived but desired political ambition, the IGBO PRESIDENCY.
“If you look at the present activities of the EFCC, most of her victims are top politicians, technocrats, businessmen, industrialists of Igbo extraction.
“The invention of the political science phrase (MARGINALIZATION) is an acronym to qualify the quantum of the gargantuan oppressive tendencies against this race called Ndigbo.
“When you look at the judicial graphics at the trial of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, former Governor of Abia State in my humble but stiff opinion, you will join me in concluding that it was a fiendish script authored elsewhere outside of the Courts.
“However, am not holding brief for Chief Theodore Orji, a former Governor of Abia State, whose fraudulent properties were confiscated by the EFCC.This suggest as though there are no corrupt Governors from Northern Nigeria. This emasculation of Igbo top brass is an arm twisting method against a particular people, ahead of 2023 Presidential elections.
“2023 Presidential elections is a veritable date for Nigerians to support a Presidential candidate of Igbo extraction to stem political suspicion and in the process strike a balance in hostile event of Merchants of Biafran Movements that reached international milestones which to me, if not well managed will be an invitation to another genocide as our God given unity will also be threatened.
“2023 to me could be a destination for Nigerians or destination landmine politically, which make or mar our existence as a nation.
“I believe in equity, fairness, justice and fairness. A sauce for the goose is also for the gander. Igbo in Nigeria have contributed enough to deserve a pie of the Presidency.”
